Top-ranked Penn State defeated No. 2 Ohio State 36-5 on Feb. 13 in University Park, Pennsylvania.

The Buckeyes (17-1 overall, 6-1 in the Big Ten) got a win from two-time NCAA champion Jesse Mendez at 141 pounds. He topped Braeden Davis 19-2. Mendez scored first with a breakthrough takedown late in the first period and poured it on soon after. Mendez worked Davis hard in the second with one takedown after another and led 15-1 by the end of the period.

Ohio State was missing starters at 157 pounds (No. 1 Brendan Cannon), 149 pounds (No. 6 Ethan Stiles) and 174 pounds (No. 5 Carson Kharchla).

Penn State is 14-0, 7-0. The victory clinched the regular-season Big Ten Championship for the Nittany Lions.

PSU began with dramatic, overtime victories from Luke Lilledahl and Marcus Blaze. They followed with a handful of expected bonus-point wins.

The best came at 184 pounds with No. 1-ranked Rocco Welsh — an Ohio State transfer — rallying with two takedowns in the final two minutes to win, 7-6, and bring the sellout crowd roaring to its feet.

It was the NCAA-record 85th straight for Penn State. Most, like this one, coming in lopsided fashion. They've now outscored their opponents this season by a mind-bending 580-39 total.

The announced crowd in the Bryce Jordan Center tonight was 16,006. Penn State said it is an NCAA indoor wrestling attendance record.

Four Penn State wrestlers, from 165 pounds through 197 pounds, have still not lost a bout all season. Mitchell Mesenbrink, Levi Haines, Rocco Welsh and Josh Barr are a combined 66-0. All are ranked No. 1 nationally. All have wrestled for individual NCAA titles.
