It’s almost impossible to discuss Nick Sirianni without mentioning his fire. The Philadelphia Eagles head coach wears his eмоtions on his sleeve. He coaches with urgency and demands an edge from his players.

So, it probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that he’s already taken a liking to one of the team’s newest additions. Sometimes, personalities just fit, and this feels like one of those cases. Sirianni and Riq Woolen might be two peas from the same pod.

Speaking with reporters at the NFL’s annual league meeting, Sirianni didn’t hold back when asked about Woolen. His response was filled with enthusiasm, the kind that suggests this isn’t just another roster addition, but a player the coaching staff believes can make a real impact.

"We're edgy as a football team. We like to show our excitement. Football is fun. It's supposed to be fun. You can lose that sometimes in highly stressful situations, but it's fun. ... I want those guys to show their emotion. I want them to show their excitement. I want them to show their personalities within the rules of the game. That's my job."

That belief makes sense when you consider what Woolen brings to the table. Long, athletic, and physical, he has the traits teams covet at cornerback. Beyond the measurable tools, it’s his mindset that stands out. Woolen plays with confidence and aggression, two qualities that align perfectly with Sirianni’s coaching philosophy.

For a defense looking to reestablish its identity, that matters.

Philadelphia didn’t make a ton of splashy, one-for-one upgrades this offseason, but Woolen represents something close to it in the secondary. His presence offers both immediate competition and long-term upside, particularly in a room that needed a jolt of energy and playmaking ability.

More importantly, he fits the culture.

Sirianni has consistently emphasized toughness, accountability, and energy as pillars of the team’s success. Woolen checks each of those boxes, and early impressions suggest he’s already buying into what the Eagles are building.

There’s still work to be done, and expectations will grow as the season approaches. But if Sirianni’s early endorsement is any indication, Woolen won’t just be another piece in the secondary—he could become a tone-setter.
