Former South Carolina football star safety Nick Emmanwori hurt his ankle but is still expected to play in his first Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks.
During media availability on Feb. 5, it was confirmed by Emmanwori and coach Mike MacDonald that the rookie suffered "a low-ankle sprain" at the end of practice on Feb. 4.
MacDonald told reporters "fully expect he's going to play."
Emmanwori, the No. 35 overall pick in the 2025 draft, has been a versatile player on defense for the Seahawks and is expected to be a key player against the New England Patriots Feb. 8 (6:30 p.m. ET, NBC).
Emmanwori was Pro Football Focus' top-graded defender in the NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers when he forced three incompletions and had five tackles. He's up to 56 solo tackles and one interception heading into the Super Bowl.
He's first among all safeties with 15 pass breakups and a Defensive Rookie of the Year finalist.
He played under coach Shane Beamer from 2022-24, where he had 166 solo tackles and six interceptions.
