The Toronto Maple Leafs hold a 3-0 series lead over the Ottawa Senators after their Game 3 first-round win on Thursday night. For the second straight game, the Leafs found the back of the net in overtime, and this time it came off the stick of defenseman Simon Benoit.

Before the game started, a situation occurred during warm-ups that has since escalated. Ottawa forward Nick Cousins skated by Toronto goalie Anthony Stolarz, who was getting loose in front of the penalty box.

Cousins intentionally shot a puck toward Stolarz. The reason he did that is unknown, but it's worth noting that the two won the Stanley Cup last season together with the Florida Panthers. They also played on the same AHL team—Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers AHL affiliate).

On Friday morning, word spread that the NHL was reviewing the clip to determine whether any discipline was necessary.

After review, the NHL announced that it has "fined the Ottawa Senators $25,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct." Additionally, the "National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety has fined Ottawa’s Nick Cousins $2,083.33, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for unsportsmanlike conduct."

Cousins missed Game 1 as a healthy scratch, but took the ice for both Game 2 and Game 3. In those games, he didn't make much of an impact, recording no points and just one shot on less than 12 minutes of ice time in each.

Ottawa will host Game 4 at Canadien Tire Centre, scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
