The Chargers are signing running back Keaton Mitchell on a reported two-year, $9.5 million deal with $5 million guaranteed.

Mitchell gives the Chargers more speed in the backfield as he's slated to split carries with Kimani Vidal. Omarion Hampton will be the Bolts' primary running back in 2026, but the Chargers now have another option in the backfield with Mitchell.

In 2025, Mitchell posted 341 yards on 59 rushes for the Ravens, who chose not to tender the 24-year-old for $3.5 million this offseason.

Mitchell averaged 5.8 yards per catch last season and has averaged 6.3 yards per catch throughout his career. Ironically, he was tied with Hampton for 28th amongst all running backs in yards after contact (3.34).

The signing is another Baltimore connection for LA as the Bolts agreed to terms with tight end Charlie Kolar earlier this week.

Here are the best social media reactions to the newest backfield addition:

Love Keaton Mitchell. That dude can fly. https://t.co/BMAh05EL9Ppic.twitter.com/9l6aN2TLg1

I hope in real life, if you're in a relationship with someone who treats you as poorly as the #Chargers have treated Kimani Vidal that you find a way out of that relationship.

Just to be clear: you can like the Keaton Mitchell signing (I do) while also acknowledging the Chargers’ offseason has been pretty lousy so far, given the expectations. They entered the offseason with the most cap space in the league and a very obvious need to fix the interior…

Interesting. I’m gonna assume Kimani Vidal will stay as RB2, making Keaton Mitchell RB3. This gives the Chargers a really good RB room. I think Mitchell is capable of being a really good RB2 as he showed in the handful of games his rookie season before he got hurt. https://t.co/hx12BmmgP2

This is one of the best signings yet. Keaton Mitchell is a stud. Just suffered an unfortunate injury two years ago. He is ascending talent! https://t.co/Eikg7KQEZ7

Ravens didn't tender Mitchell for $3.5 million and he ends up getting $5 million in 2026 from the Chargers, which suggests that they could have probably landed a late-round pick in a trade. Mitchell's going to have a week in 2026 where he's the league-wide RB1 with Mike McDaniel. https://t.co/PQDdYBBb3u

Frank got it !!!!!

Ravens not tendering him made so much sense for LA https://t.co/xT6z7kskPF

Love this signing. I wanted Mitchell for the Chargers when he was coming out. Now he fits better under McDaniel. Great YPC (limited load in BAL) and speed, speed, speed. This money also tells us he's going to be the guy behind Hampton. https://t.co/B2VrcCssMM
