The NFL is in the midst of its offseason, and with that comes rule changes and proposals to alter other aspects of the game. On Wednesday, the NFL announced several rule changes, but one specifically affects Baker Mayfield.
ESPN's Benjamin Solak shared that the NFL's rule change regarding celebrations now includes a 15-yard penalty for a "nose wipe."
The NFL sent the full rules report to its 32 teams this week and included this celebration as a "violent action." In Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1(d), the NFL rule was officially submitted, and one of the notable players who do the celebration includes Baker Mayfield.
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is also a notable player who has been known to celebrate this way.
Baker Mayfield is someone who fights for extra yards and is known to be vocal in sharing his excitement when making a play. He will have to work on something new to celebrate first downs for the 2025 season and beyond.
