The NFL will once again see a sharp clip in the salary cap for the 2026 season, continuing a trend that doesn't seem to be ending anytime soon.
According to reports on Friday, the NFL has informed member organizations that the league's salary cap for the upcoming season will range from $25 million to $25 million, up from $25 million in the 2025 season. The move will bring the total increase in the cap since 2022 to nearly $100 million, as it sat at just $208.2 million entering that season.
The sharp uptick in recent years is an acceleration of a trend that has been visible for well over a decade now – dating back to 2013, when the season began with the cap at $123 million, the league has increased the cap by at least $10 million every season but 2021, during which it decreased by just under $16 million. But the following year, it ballooned by over $25 million, and things haven't slowed down since.
The constant and significant cap increases can be attributed to the league's lucrative TV contracts and are unlikely to end in the near future, given the NFL's popularity. In the short term, the move will most benefit teams currently feeling a salary cap crunch and the upcoming field of free agents searching for a new home.

The NFL informed clubs today it is projecting a 2026 salary cap in the range of $301.2 million to $305.7 million per club, per source.
That would represent another significant jump from this year’s $279.2 million cap number, and nearly $100M than the $208.2M cap in 2022. pic.twitter.com/3Mr146H01C
