ESPN is laying off several notable employees this week and NFL Network‘s Tom Pelissero is among them.
Earlier this year, ESPN purchased NFL Network from the NFL, so all of the latter’s employees, including Pelissero, went under the former’s umbrella upon the sale being finalized.
Pelissero was one of the many high-profile cuts ESPN has made this week, and the NFL insider has now broken his silence on his departure from the Network.
“Thanks to all of you who watched me the past nine years on NFL Network,” Pelissero said on Wednesday morning. “Thanks to all of my colleagues who made the job fun and pushed me on a daily basis. Thanks to my family, who constantly made sacrifices to support me in a life-consuming job. I’m so grateful. See you soon.”

Pelissero’s termination comes after he served as one of NFL Network’s top insiders for close to a decade after being hired in 2017.
Prior to his employment at NFL Network, Pelissero covered the NFL for USA TODAY and hosted a radio show on SiriusXM NFL Radio and 1500 ESPN Twin Cities.

ESPN analyst Ryan Clark was one of the most high-profile layoffs, and most definitely the most controversial after he was notified by the network during his appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live,” according to The Athletic’s Andrew Marchand.
Fantasy football and injury analyst Stephania Bell, former NFL players Cam Newton and Bart Scott and analyst Charles Davis were other prominent on-air talent ESPN reportedly cut ties with.
The round of ESPN layoffs are just the latest in a slew of them since 2013, when ESPN cut 400 employees, according to a graphic shared by Stephen A. Smith, who was particularly upset with Clark being let go.

“I am not happy about this decision one bit,” Smith said on the StraightShooter with Stephen A. Smith podcast. “The bosses know I’m not happy about this decision. I’ve made that very, very clear.”
“The only thing that I can definitively say to you is that there is nobody that’s going to be let go that was more of a friend and a brother to me than Ryan Clark,” Smith added.
The layoffs come ahead of an NFL season in which ESPN will be responsible for the broadcast of Super Bowl LXI, which marks the first time in the network’s history it will broadcast the Big Game.
