NFL insider shares stellar reviews of Myles Garrett, Trent McDuffie from camp

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie as the Los Angeles Rams’ blockbuster additions this offseason. Garrett is the reigning Defensive Player of the Year and McDuffie is a two-time All-Pro, each making the Rams defense significantly better.

As exciting as those two newcomers are, it appears they’ve been even better than anticipated. Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated visited Rams training camp recently and he says Garrett has been better than advertised, fitting “in seamlessly.”

As for McDuffie, Breer wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a captain in his first season with the Rams, and that the team thinks he “can become perhaps the NFL’s best defensive back” in a similar role to what Jalen Ramsey played in L.A.

The buzz about the new guys is very real. Myles Garrett has been, believe it or not, better than advertised, has fit in seamlessly and should benefit from having a deep, loaded group of defensive linemen around him. And Trent McDuffie has checked every box, as a guy who can play field, boundary and slot corner, and is a tough, physical tone-setter—I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a captain in his first year as a Ram. The team believes he can become perhaps the NFL’s best defensive back in a role not unlike the one that Jalen Ramsey (who, admittedly, is a bigger, more physically imposing player) played in Los Angeles. Those two guys alone should make a very significant difference, and that’s with all due respect to Jared Verse, who was part of the cost of getting Garrett.

The Rams were thrilled to acquire both players this offseason and it's easy to see why. Garrett is the unanimous best edge rusher in the NFL, and McDuffie is a premier cornerback – both in the slot and on the outside.

If they live up to expectations, Los Angeles' defense is going to be a terrifying unit.
