Injuries have been the biggest topic of conversation surrounding the Chicago Bears recently in training camp, where safety, nickel cornerback, wide receiver and left tackle have all been impacted. But it sounds like there could be some encouraging news about Ozzy Trapilo's status.

Trapilo suffered a ruptured patellar tendon during a wild-card playoff win against the Green Bay Packers back in January. Initially, there was concern it could alter his career. But the Bears were confident that he'd return in form, although he was expected to miss most of the 2026 season.

Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer was in attendance at Bears training camp on Sunday, and he shared an interesting nugget about Trapilo's status, saying he "might be back sooner than expected."

It's certainly a vague statement from Breer, as there wasn't an initial timeline outside of the expectation that Trapilo would miss most of 2026. Regardless, returning "sooner than expected" is an encouraging update on the former second-round pick.

There are questions at left tackle for Chicago, especially after projected starter Braxton Jones went down with an injury. He's missed the last several practices and there's currently no timetable for return. It's been Jedrick Wills Jr. and Kiran Amegadjie rotating with the first-team offense.

The hope is Jones returns to the practice field soon to bring a little stability to the position as a three-year starter. But if the Bears can get Trapilo back at some point this season, it would be a huge boost for one of the team's biggest strengths at offensive line.
