Sometimes, things don't work out as we expect. Heading into the 2025-26 NFL regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles hoped that Kelee Ringo would take the next step and become a capable NFL starter. As an insurance policy, the added Adoree' Jackson in free agency from the rival New York Giants.
It was hoped that Jackson could fill the Isaiah Rodgers role from the previous season. He would be the first player off the bench if the secondary needed him, functioning as a sort of NFL sixth man.
Ringo never took that next step. Jackson got off to a slow start, and Philadelphia would add Jakorian Bennett, Michael Carter II, and Jaire Alexander at various points of the season. Alexander retired. The other two guys weren't that good. Fortunately, Jackson improved as the season went on.
Fast forward to the present, and Jackson's one-year deal ends when the new league year begins. It's doubtful the Eagles will sign him. Here are a few options if they look to free agency to find his replacement.
This seemingly becomes a better idea if Cooper DeJean changes positions and moves outside. Roger McCreary stands five feet eleven inches and weighs 190 pounds.
He hasn't played an entire season since his rookie campaign in 2022, and he didn't start a game once traded to the Los Angeles Rams this season. Still, it's easy to imagine him being on every cornerback-needy team's list of potential targets.
Nahshon Wright is long and rangy at six-foot-four. That doesn't seem to complicate his movement any. A former third-rounder, last season was his best. He earned a Pro Bowl nod as an alternate, ironically, after Quinyon Mitchell withdrew from the proceedings.
We're going to assume that Jamel Dean winds up being too expensive for the Eagles or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-sign him. While we're at it, let's assume Jaylen Watson exceeds Philadelphia's price range.
That brings us to Tariq Woolen as the best cornerback option. His name is one we've seen connected to the Eagles before. He's a former Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team member who's probably in need of a change of scenery.
Some might rate former Eagles CB Rasul Douglas higher than Joshua Williams, but we can't talk ourselves into a reunion. Asante Samuel is the son of a former Eagles Pro Bowler, but junior seems like more of a slot addition.
Joshua Williams doesn't have much starting experience, with just a dozen games in 65 in-game appearances, but he has shown potential when he has played. Jot his name down if you are keeping notes.
