Last year, NFL owners voted in favor of allowing players to compete in the 2028 L.A. Olympics.
After "real" flag football players dominated a squad with NFL players (coached by the Broncos' own Sean Peyton) in an exhibition tournament earlier this year, it will be interesting to see how many players might actually end up on Team USA.
Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports reported on Twitter/X that the NFL is now in the early stages of gathering information on which players might be interested in participating in the 2028 Olympics as part of the USA's flag football team.
While the NFL will be officially gauging interest by asking players' preferences over the next several weeks, final decisions and a potential roster will not be decided until next year.
The owner's vote last spring included a stipulation that no more than one player per NFL team may be picked for the Olympic squad. (International players are also allowed to represent their respective countries.) Notably, Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain has expressed interest in competing for Team USA.
Surtain told the Denver Gazette last year that he has a “high interest" in joining Team USA's flag football unit, "because the Olympics is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’’
For now, though, the focus for PS2 and his teammates remains on competing for a Super Bowl. Before the Olympic planning heats up in 2027, Denver will first get through the 2026 NFL season.

In the coming weeks the NFL will ask players who is interested in potentially participating in the 2028 Olympics for flag football. Nothing beyond that will be decided this year. Next year will begin the real decision process.
