Reality is starting to set in with the San Francisco 49ers and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The star wide receiver is digging a deeper and deeper hole by the day.
Aiyuk is a good football player. Nobody denies it. That said, his antics are making him unsignable, as one former NFL executive seems to understand it.
NFL analyst Andrew Brandt joined the "Ross Tucker Podcast" to give his two cents on the Aiyuk situation. It seems a clear consensus is building that Aiyuk won't be added to another team any time soon. He asks, "You think the Commanders Want a Piece of that?"
Here's more of what Brandt had to say on the polarizing player's antics over the last few months.
"What a bad way to get it. Now he's making Instagram videos, just begging the 49ers to cut him, bashing the 49ers, bashing John Lynch, bashing his agent, bashing the NFLPA, and talking about signing with the Commanders, where he's friends with Jayden Daniels, where the GM came from San Francisco, and I'm just thinking, Adam Peters, the GM, or anyone associated with the Commanders, you want that? Like, you think the Commanders want a piece of that?
Like, I can't see it. Which is why he's still on the 49ers roster, because he doesn't have any money due til September. They can squat on him and hope against hope that somebody offers a deal they can take. Because, who wants Brandon Aiyuk right now? He looks like he's a little off."
The problem for Aiyuk is, he really has no leverage. And that's what makes his posts in favor of joining the Washington Commanders so nonsensical. Aiyuk isn't free to leave and may not be willing to work with the 49ers front office. So, he's not going anywhere unless a trade is made, and it does not appear any NFL franchise is standing on the table to trade for him.
Aiyuk would certainly upgrade the Commanders receiver room. Former 49ers wideout Deebo Samuel led the team in receiving yards last year with 727 yards. No other Washington receiver eclipsed 600 yards and just three had more than 225 yards. So, Commanders fans' excitement over the move in some ways makes sense.
What doesn't make sense, Brandt notes, is all that would come with signing Aiyuk.
The 49ers wide receiver is not going anywhere any time soon. Fortunately for the Niners, new wideout Mike Evans should fill whatever void he leaves. Evans and company will look to have a productive season in 2026.

“I would say Business of Sports Hall of Famer but gosh, what a BAD way to get it…”
