NFL scouts and executives recently weighed in on LSU offensive lineman Will Campbell, a potential pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars in this year's NFL draft.
ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler recently spoke with coaches, scouts, and executives around the NFL about several of this year's prospects, one of which was Campbell.
"He's going to be awesome -- All-Pro caliber guard, and if he's a tackle, he will be better than at least half the tackles in the NFL right off the bat," a high-ranking personnel evaluator with an NFC team told Fowler. "Captain, started every game, instinctive. Don't overthink it."
The big question around Campbell, who played tackle at LSU, is whether he will be a guard or a tackle at the NFL level. At the NFL combine, Campbell's arm length measurements came in at 32-5/8 inches, which was in the 7th percentile among offensive tackles.
Typically, 33-inch arms are the universal minimum that teams look for at the tackle position. But of note, at LSU's pro day, Campbell's arms did measure in at that 33-inch mark.
"It [Campbell's measurables] was a thing for a while, but I think people have gotten over it," an AFC executive said to Fowler.
In 558 pass-blocking snaps this past season, Campbell was credited with giving up only two sacks and 18 pressures, according to PFF. For what it's worth, in run-blocking grade, he ranked 87th among all tackles.
Campbell is widely considered the top offensive lineman in this year's draft class and even with the additions the Jaguars made in free agency, that shouldn't stop them from further adding to this position group, where there are still some unknowns in regards to how things will come together.
Success for the offense as a whole and getting Trevor Lawrence back on track will start with improved play up front.
"It's a concern (Campbell's arm length) that limits his ability in some way, and he gets beat on the inside edge a little bit," an NFC personnel man said. "But he knows how to play. It's not like, 'Oh my gosh, I can't draft him because of arm length.'"
