NFL exec believes Seahawks' Sam Darnold 'deserves' to be top-10 QB originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl 60 over the New England Patriots, and the Super Bowl MVP was running back Kenneth Walker III.
With the defense also being a huge reason for the win, Sam Darnold has gone a bit under-the-radar despite his incredible season for Seattle.
However, one NFL executive recently told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler in the top-10 QB ranking poll of NFL scouts, executives, and coaches that Darnold "deserves" to be a top-10 QB in the NFL even though he was snubbed from such an honor this year.
Seahawks' Sam Darnold 'deserves' to be a top-10 QB in NFL, per exec
"What a career bounce back," a high-ranking AFC team official said, "He's been lights-out for two years. Deserves to be in the top-10."
This praise for Darnold is warranted, as he's gone from a complete bust to a legitimately good starting QB in the NFL. He thrived in Minnesota, but reached new heights with a Super Bowl win in Seattle this past season.
However, this poll from ESPN of the NFL has Darnold only as an honorable mention, not making the top-10, with Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears at No. 10, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions at No. 9, and Drake Maye of the New England Patriots at No. 8.
Darnold, this past season, threw for 4,048 passing yards and 25 touchdowns with a 67.7% completion rate. Though he had 14 interceptions and fumbled 11 times, the most in the NFL, Darnold was still an incredible QB last year.

During the playoffs, he threw for 672 yards and five touchdowns with no interceptions en route to the Super Bowl win over the Patriots.
While he might not be as impressive statistically as some other QBs around the NFL, or as talented as a dual-threat playmaker who can run for big gains or scramble to make ridiculous throws, Darnold certainly has become a good QB in the NFL.
The Seahawks QB isn't a top-10 QB in the NFL based on this ESPN poll, but he received enough votes inside the top-10, and also received some lofty praise from this AFC executive.
