Another day, another former Ohio State teammate of C.J. Stroud visits NRG Stadium.
The Houston Texans have met with Ohio State defensive lineman Tyleik Williams during the pre-draft process, according to Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports. The 6-foot-4 defensive tackle reportedly met with the Texans on Tuesday ahead of his four visits to the midwest.
The 333-pound Williams was a four-time All-Big Ten selection for the Buckeyes. After starting in 25 games and playing in 52, including 16 in 2024 to help Ohio State win the national title, Williams produced 27 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, 10 batted passes and a forced fumble.
Williams became a fixture of the Big Ten during his freshman season in 2021 after recording 6.5 tackles for loss and five sacks. He produced 18.0 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks over his final two collegiate seasons, including 8.0 tackles for loss over 13 games during the 2024 campaign.
Williams' frame is bigger than what most Texans' defensive tackles have weighed coming into their tenures, but his upside as a promising run-stopping power-gap nose tackle could warrant a Day 2 selection. Most mock drafts believe his potential in the run game as a two-down option should have landing somewhere within the top 75 picks.
According to Pro Football Focus, Williams produced 19 pressures while delivering an elite run defense grade in 2024. Albeit still raw in the pass-rushing department early in his collegiate career, he still managed to finish with over 10 sacks in his career.
Williams ranks as the No. 43 overall player on the consensus big board, suggesting he could be an option for the Texans in the second round. The Texans could use a future nose tackle prospect to develop since last season they only featured three techs. Tim Settle, Kurt Hinish, Denico Autry and Sheldon Rankins all feature one-year contracts, so the Texans must address the depth of the team for the long haul.
The Texans own seven picks in this year's draft, including four in the top 100.
