The Lions will likely be keeping their eyes on a safety during the NFL draft due to the season-ending injuries to Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch. If a top prospect is available at their pick and is simply too good to pass up, the Lions may bite. Fast-rising prospect Emmanuel McNeil-Warren is one such prospect who could tempt the Lions. However, he has a moderate medical concern level which includes a shoulder surgery.
Here is the excerpt of my medical report on McNeil-Warren:
Projected round 1-2. #19 on Daniel Jeremiah board Jan 27.
Concern level 4/10
McNeil-Warren accumulated 5 INT, 13 PBU, and 9(!) forced fumbles in his career. He was mostly reliable except for in 2024 when he had a significant shoulder injury.
Lions fans don’t want to hear about defensive backs with shoulder injuries after losing Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw to shoulder surgeries last season. It’s reassuring that McNeil-Warren played a full season after his injury.
Medical will need to estimate his risk of further shoulder issues, as well as verify a potentially, slightly-older age.
