While some NFL draft experts are questioning whether Alabama quarterback is a first-rounder, ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. says Simpson may be a steal.Kiper has him going No. 21 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He doesn’t have the elite traits, but what does he do? He’s a faster version of Mac Jones.”Simpson’s stock is dropping in some circles, but not with Kiper."I think Pittsburgh with [Mike] McCarthy coming in is gonna be really interesting," Kiper said. "It depends on what you see with Ty Simpson. If you watched him up until mid-October, 21 touchdowns, only one interception over the first nine games.

"Then he has that seven-game period where he had five fumbles lost. Last six games, seven touchdowns, but four interceptions. But if you looked at him over those first nine games, getting the ball out, he was letting it rip. There's a lot to like."

Simpson's struggles in the second half were due to injuries he suffered throughout the season, particularly a persistent back problem, but he continued to play despite his issues.

His toughness may play well for him in the draft. Coaches tend to like players who play through injuries.
