Fans typically think of interior defensive linemen as the mammoths of the gridiron who dominate with size and strength. In that sense, Texas A&M football defense lineman Albert Regis is a unique NFL draft prospect.
A fifth-year senior with two years of starting experience, Regis excelled as one of the Aggies' top run-stoppers despite measuring in at 6-foot-1, 308 pounds. Although Other NFL defensive tackles measure as small or smaller — Cowboys defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa measured 6-foot-2, 280 pounds when he was drafted — they typically specialize as pass rushers.
Regis' size didn't stop him from making an impact, with Texas A&M coach Mike Elko calling him one of the defense's more "unsung" players in 2024. His production speaks for itself, but teams will be analyzing Regis to see if his outlier size is a strength or if it will cost him as a professional.

Texas A&M defensive tackle Albert Regis (17) celebrates a defensive stop during the round one College Football Playoff game against Miami at Kyle Field on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2025 in College Station, Texas. (Aaron E. Martinez/Austin American-Statesman)
Strengths: Stout build gives him a leverage advantage against offensive linemen... Displayed the ability to play two gaps and showed sound technique when disengaging blocks to make a stop... Has a weighty punch that can negate his arm length disadvantage... Showed his best play against top competition, as Pro Football Focus gave him four stops, its enhanced measure of tackles/defensive stops, against Miami and three against Notre Dame... Motor runs hot and will pursue a ball carrier even if he doesn't make the tackle.
Weaknesses: Pass rush was virtually nonexistent, with just 23 pressures and two sacks through two seasons as a starter. Arm length could be an issue against longer offensive linemen... Would occasionally miss out on tackles despite winning a rep due to length.
What our reporter noticed:In the first round of the College Football Playoff, Texas A&M's defense held Miami running back Mark Fletcher Jr. to 85 rushing yards and about 4.0 yards per carry through three quarters before Regis exited the game with an injury. Then the Aggies' run defense collapsed. Fletcher averaged 12.9 yards per carry in the final period and ripped off a 56-yard run that led to the game-sealing touchdown.
