Who will the Washington Commanders draft at No. 7 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft in two weeks? Washington is a team of mystery, in part because of the unpredictability of this upcoming draft. Outside of Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza, who is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders, predicting the rest of the top 10 feels impossible.

While the Commanders were busy in free agency addressing numerous needs, they've left themselves open to picking almost any position outside of quarterback. There are other positions that Washington is unlikely to select at No. 7, such as the offensive line or tight end, but the Commanders could select an edge rusher, linebacker, cornerback, safety, wide receiver, or running back; you get the point. So much of what Washington will do will be determined by the six teams ahead of them.

In the latest edition of "The McShay Show," featuring NFL draft analyst Todd McShay and NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the pair analyzed several of the teams picking inside the top 10, including Washington.

At first, the talk centered around where Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love would go, what the Cleveland Browns would do at No. 6 and more. McShay thinks the Commanders are in a great spot.

"It feels like Washington at No. 7 is going to wind up kind of benefiting, one of these great players is going to fall," McShay said. "If Jeremiyah Love doesn't go 4 or 5, which we believe he will, he could be sitting there. If Caleb Downs doesn't go, I think he's the parachute for Washington. I think Sonny Styles is probably the most likely to land there."

Then Breer chimed in on Styles to Washington.

"Styles would make a ton of sense for Dan Quinn," Breer said. "The big, long, athletic, I mean like basically, what Pete Carroll's defenses have always loved in linebackers, guys who can just cover ground, to me, Sonny Styles would be a perfect fit for Washington."

The topic then turned to the cornerback position. While many mock drafts have sent LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane to Washington, Breer thinks his range begins at No. 8. McShay follows that up by mentioning that some teams view Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy, who missed last season with an injury, more favorably. Both agreed that Delane and McCoy will be gone by pick No. 12.

As for Styles, many believe he could be the best player in the entire draft. His biggest weakness? He is an off-ball linebacker, which is not considered a premium position. The same logic applies to Love and Downs (safety). While Styles could go as high as No. 3, most mock drafts have him heading to the New York Giants at No. 5. If the Giants pass Styles, barring a team trading in front of the Commanders, he could be there for the taking at No. 7.

Washington can't worry about premium or non-premium positions. The Commanders need talent. They specifically need a game-changer, whether it's in the offensive backfield, defensive backfield, wide receiver, or front seven. Styles hasn't even scratched the surface of how good he will be, and he's only 21.

In his latest mock draft, ESPN NFL insider Peter Schrager projected Styles to Washington. McShay is one of the best draft analysts out there, while Schrager is often among the most plugged-in insiders in the media.

While no one can accurately predict what each NFL team will do, is Styles to Washington now the odds-on favorite two weeks before the 2026 NFL Draft?
