NFL coach slams fans for ruining Pro Bowl after Shedeur Sanders selection originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The Cleveland Browns are, technically, sending two quarterbacks to the Pro Bowl. While Joe Flacco is now on the Cincinnati Bengals, he made four starts for the Browns, including a win over the Green Bay Packers.

But the most noteworthy Pro Bowl inclusion is Shedeur Sanders. The rookie fifth-rounder struggled this season in his seven starts, but still made the Pro Bowl. It was met with scrutiny from not only fans, but also those in the NFL as well.

As Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated shared, multiple coaches and execs are not a fan of the way voting works. One NFC coach in particular went as far as to blame the fans and TikTok for tarnishing the reputation of the Pro Bowl.

NFC coach blames fans for Shedeur Sanders Pro Bowl nod

"The NFL Screwed up when they gave the fans a vote," one NFC coach texted. "The most popular guy on TikTok goes to the Pro Bowl now. When it was coaching and players voting, it meant a lot more."

This coach is blaming the fans for Sanders making the Pro Bowl, but it's a bit incorrect to blame the fans in this case. While there is a very strong fan base for Sanders in the NFL, those fans weren't the sole reason he made the Pro Bowl this year.

Sanders was likely far down the list of quarterbacks the NFL went to, but with the top quarterbacks ahead of his either injured and unable to play in the Pro Bowl, or just simply declined the invite, the NFL had to turn to someone like Sanders.

And it's not like he's the only quarterback on the AFC roster who was undeserving of their spot. Joe Flacco and Joe Burrow were both named to the Pro Bowl, and while they might have had as rough a year as Sanders, neither is a conventional Pro Bowler.

But, with the NFL needing players for the Pro Bowl, and many turning them down, the league didn't have much of a choice but to go with Sanders, Flacco, and Burrow this year.

This NFC coach blaming fans for the Pro Bowl voting being the way it is isn't entirely accurate. While the fans do play some role in how things go, Sanders wasn't a Pro Bowler solely due to the fan vote.

The overall prestige of the Pro Bowl has diminished, and this NFC coach clearly doesn't like how fans have swayed how voting works for the Pro Bowl.

But, in this case, the fans aren't to blame, and instead, the way the Pro Bowl is viewed by players is the reason for the Sanders, Flacco, and Burrow nominations this year.
