There's no denying the Pittsburgh Steelers have been in a funk since the retirement of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The team has shuffled quarterbacks in and out of the starting lineup but none of them was the answer. A fact not missed on NFL analyst Colin Cowherd who ripped ownership for their moves, especially at quarterback, going so far to compare them to AFC North rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I think these guys are the Bengals," Cowher day. "The ownership is poor. They hire in-house. They don’t go top of the market. Cincinnati will never truly invest in the offensive line, and the Steelers are like ho-hum at quarterback. So that’s, they’re not playing modern football in the front office or on the field. To me, they spend way too much money on defense."
Cowherd also had some criticism for the hire of new head coach Mike McCarthy.
"So, I don’t think Mike McCarthy is a perfect fit like Mike Tomlin said," Cowherd continued. "I don’t think he’s an awful fit, but it’s sometimes you see this all the time. You got family members like this, you got in-laws like this, there’s companies like this. They’re just not comfortable with some of the cultural changes in America or at work and that’s what the Steelers feel like to me. A better, glossier version of the Bengals than, like, the LA Rams, who were top of the league.”
