A change of scenery could lead to one of the NFL's biggest comeback stories in 2026.

ESPN NFL analyst Mike Tannenbaum is predicting that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray will capture the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year award after joining coach Kevin O'Connell and an offense loaded with talent. Tannenbaum believes Murray is stepping into an ideal situation and could help elevate Minnesota into one of the NFC's elite teams.

"Kyler Murray will win Comeback Player of the Year," Tannenbaum wrote. "Murray steps into an ideal system with coach Kevin O'Connell and receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. I think the Vikings can go 11-6, clinch the NFC North and win a playoff game with the former Cardinals QB at the helm."

The prediction reflects the belief that O'Connell's quarterback-friendly scheme can maximize Murray's dynamic skill set. One of the league's most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks when healthy, Murray has shown the ability to stress defenses with both his arm and mobility. Now he will have the benefit of throwing to one of the NFL's premier receiving trios. Jefferson remains among the league's most productive wide receivers, while Addison has emerged as a dangerous complementary threat capable of stretching defenses vertically, and Jauan Jennings, 28, who led the 49ers in receiving touchdowns (nine), to go with 55 receptions for 643 yards. That 2025 production followed a career year in 2024, when Jennings had 77 catches for 975 yards and six touchdowns.

For Murray, the 2026 season represents an opportunity to reestablish himself among the NFL's top quarterbacks. The former No. 1 overall pick has produced flashes of elite play throughout his career but has also battled injuries and inconsistency during recent seasons. Minnesota's expectations will be high. Winning the NFC North would require finishing ahead of division rivals Detroit, Green Bay, and Chicago, while a playoff victory would represent another significant step forward for a franchise searching for sustained postseason success.

Whether Murray ultimately earns Comeback Player of the Year honors remains to be seen, but Tannenbaum's prediction highlights the optimism surrounding both the quarterback and a Vikings team that could emerge as one of the NFC's biggest surprises in 2026.
