Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona marked one of the quickest sales of the summer transfer window, with Newcastle still looking for a replacement for the England winger.

Gordon will play for the Spanish giants after the Catalan club moved ahead of Bayern Munich to complete a £70 million deal, hijacking the operation when it seemed nothing but done with the Germans.

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, we’ve learned that Newcastle could bank extra money from Gordon’s sale because of a hidden clause in the deal with Barcelona.

The report states that Newcastle will receive €1million for any season in which Gordon plays 60 percent of Barcelona’s fixtures, with his contract running for five seasons.

The clause could be worth around £4.3 million across Gordon’s five-year contract if he regularly hits the appearance threshold.

Barcelona played 57 matches last season, meaning Gordon would have needed 34 appearances to trigger the payment.

Gordon made 46 appearances for Newcastle last season despite being left out during the run-in as transfer speculation increased.

The 25-year-old is currently with England at the World Cup.
