New York Knicks get bad news regarding chances of keeping Mitchell Robinson originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Knicks's longest-tenured player might have already played his last game with the team.
According to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post, center Mitchell Robinson is unlikely to be back with the Knicks next season.
The Knicks drafted Robinson in the second round (36th overall) of the 2018 NBA Draft.
From Bondy:
The longest-tenured Knick probably won’t get a chance at an NBA title repeat. Mitchell Robinson is unlikely to return to the Knicks next season, a source told The Post’s Stefan Bondy on Thursday night.
Robinson is an unrestricted free agent, and with Knicks owner James Dolan making clear he is not willing to go into the second apron, it was always going to be questionable whether the big man would be back in New York.
If his days with the Knicks are numbered, Robinson won't have trouble finding another home in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets both reportedly have interest in signing the veteran big man. There will likely be other suitors as well.
Robinson averaged 5.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 19.6 minutes per game last season for the Knicks.
