New York Jets, Breece Hall agree to massive three-year contract extension originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Jets have successfully locked up running back Breece Hall for the long haul.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Jets and Hall have agreed to a three-year, $45.75 million contract extension that will keep him in New York through the 2028 campaign.
At $15.25 million per year, Hall ranks third in annual average among running backs.
The move comes after the Jets placed the franchise tag on Hall earlier this offseason.
Now, Hall will be playing on a three-year deal instead of the tag in 2026.
Trade speculation swirled around Hall all last season when he was in the final year of his rookie deal. But, despite the Jets unloading some key players before the trade deadline, Hall was never moved.
New York immediately slapped the franchise tag on Hall this offseason to prevent him from leaving in free agency, but the expectation all along was that the Jets wanted to extend him.
We can't say we completely agree with the Jets doing this.
On one hand, a rebuilding team spending a lot of money on a running back just doesn't make much sense.
Then again, the Jets are likely to have a young quarterback under center at some point in the not-so-distant future and having a good running back to support that player certainly helps.
