The New York Giants are signing safety J.T. Woods following a visit, reports NFL insider Aaron Wilson.
The move comes after Woods participated in a large workout with the team last Tuesday and returned for another visit on Sunday. His addition is part of an ongoing shuffle in the secondary, where the Giants are dealing with injuries among their depth. A corresponding roster move to clear a spot has not been announced.
Woods, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety, was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft with the 79th overall pick out of Baylor. He appeared in 13 games over two seasons with the Chargers, including one start, and recorded eight total tackles.
The San Antonio native has not seen regular-season action since 2023. After being waived by the Chargers in August 2024, Woods spent time on the practice squads of the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.
At Baylor, Woods was a productive defender who finished his college career with nine interceptions. He led the Big 12 with six interceptions as a senior in 2021 and was also a track athlete known for his speed, including a 4.36-second 40-yard dash during the pre-draft process.
The addition gives the Giants another athletic option as they continue evaluating their secondary depth during training camp.
