New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo offered a positive update on his recovery from last season's serious ankle injury during a recent appearance at his youth camp in Mineola.
The second-year back, who underwent surgery after breaking his right fibula and dislocating his ankle in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles, told attendees he is approximately two to three weeks away from feeling fully like himself in his rehabilitation process.
Skattebo expressed confidence that he will be ready for training camp, aligning with the team's expectations for his availability ahead of the 2026 season.
Earlier this month at the Giants' Town Hall event, Skattebo had boldly targeted a Week 1 return against the Dallas Cowboys, acknowledging the mental challenges of rebuilding trust after an injured ankle but emphasizing his progress.
"Obviously, there's ups and downs in the injury process and coming back and rehabbing, but the mental battle has been the hardest part: Making sure that I trust it fully," Skattebo said. "I'm a little ways out. Not too far, but I'll be ready to go. Week 1, I'll be ready to go."
The Arizona State product showed significant promise as a rookie, rushing for 410 yards and five touchdowns in just eight games while adding 207 receiving yards and two scores. Despite some analyst concerns regarding full readiness for the season opener, Skattebo remains determined to contribute at a high level in what he hopes will be a breakout 17-game campaign.
