Between Humphries and Watford, one of them has to be RT. We just can't have a $6mil+ veteran at every single OL position. And we can't afford cap-wise to keep signing expensive veterans to play in front of 1st round picks.

Same stupidity with Cooper is playing out with Humphries. Either play the f-ing guy or don't draft him.

Yeah, wtf does this Steve Keim fool know? We should ditch him and have message board guy run free agency.

Not saying PFF is good, but No 1. Overall in whatever metric 4 out of 5 years sounds nice.

I've always liked what I've seen from him.

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3216/evan-mathis

After winning the Super Bowl with the Broncos last month, Mathis was contemplating retirement at 34 years old. Even at his advanced age, Mathis is still playing at a very high level. He's been Pro Football Focus' No. 1 overall run-blocking guard four of the past five seasons and is coming off one of those years. It's unclear if Mathis or incumbent LG Mike Iupati will kick to right guard.

You have to play the best player at the position and Humphries looked no better than a late round/undrafted rookie in the preseason last year. If they are not confident that he has made significant strides no reason not to sign a veteran to a 1 or 2 year deal.

Cooper between injuries and lack of confidence were the problem more than anything else.

Seems high...but in Keim I trust.

I still want CJ and Whisnewski (spelling)...I'd feel better if they got A. Smith at T too.

The team is going to be stacked

Who is our LS and C?

I think Doug and Wold nailed it today. We are now drafting a C in the first round, which is about the right place for that position. We might even be able to hop out of the first round and pick up a legit starting C in the second round and acquire picks in the process.

LS? I have no idea who is out there. They may just bring in a bunch of guys during Training Camp and let them compete like they do for other ST players.

Didn't Watford do a good job last year before Massie came back? One more year of work (provided he is committed) should yield better performance. I am happy with a competition at RT between Watford and Humphries with Iupati and Mathis (2 Pro Bowl G's) and Veldheer.

On a side note...I feel strongly that we need to draft Ryan Kelly or Nick Martin at C. As others have said, that probably means a trade down out of the 1st for Kelly. I don't believe Martin will make it to Rd 3.

Yeah, won't be shocking to see us trade back and take a C.

I like the one year deal. 6 mil is high, but this is absolutely a short term fix.

Yeah, seems like draft has some depth at center. Could trade down and still have a good shot at a Martin or Allen later on.

Might be nice to see if that army veteran Seattle tried last year is worth a try. I think I watched a video on him. Great story

Nate Boyer.. I think or something like that

Seattle fans reacting to Mathis deal

http://www.seahawks.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=124277

Wow.

They are leaving us in the dust.

It looks like they are getting better and we are getting worse.

Damnit. We'd better hope Palmer goes down with an injury again this season. Cards looking pretty good heading into the draft, BUT, you don't win championships in March. We're looking pretty good ourselves at most of the important positions.

They are making a lot of common sense deals that look awfully good to me. Sometimes the obvious moves are good ones, too, and Steve Keim has done a good job of building up that roster with exactly this approach.

I think some teams out-think themselves sometimes. Arizona is a team that's done well at avoiding this.

Love it.

I havent read the whole thread, but I get just enough. NEWS FLASH!!! Watford sucks buttermilk. He is big and strong, but he doesn't play that way consistently and correctly. This league is more than a bunch of big guys.
