Fans of off-road racing will have another chance to catch ATV, SxS and now go-kart competition at Backroad Raceway when racing returns to the Stephenson County Fairgrounds on Aug. 16.
According to a community announcement, Illinois Yard Karts will make its debut at the venue, adding a new division to the motorsports lineup that launched earlier this summer.
The event will take place Aug. 16 at the ABC Supply Co. Freeport, IL Grandstands at the Stephenson County Fairgrounds, 2250 S. Walnut Road in Freeport. Gates and pits open at 11 a.m., and racing begins at 2 p.m.
General admission is $5 and pit passes are $10. Organizers said all transactions will be cash only.
The race program follows an earlier event held June 20 at the fairgrounds. Organizers said the opening race attracted competitors and spectators from across the region and are continuing to expand the schedule with additional racing opportunities.

Cash prizes will be awarded. Questions about the kart classes can be directed to 815-275-2390.
The Aug. 16 program also includes multiple ATV and side-by-side divisions for racers of varying ages and experience levels.
Classes include youth quad divisions for racers starting at age 4, sport classes for competitors 16 and older, a 450cc stock class, youth and adult SxS divisions, women's Powder Puff classes and the Ol' Man Play Class for racers age 40 and older.
ATV and SxS entries cost $20 per class. Organizers said payouts will follow an 80/20 payback structure.
All racers must wear a helmet, long-sleeve shirt, long pants and riding boots or heavy-duty work boots.
SxS drivers are required to use a belt harness, and all vehicles must have a functioning kill switch. Organizers also recommend gloves, chest protectors, elbow pads and neck braces.
Competitors younger than 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a release form before participating.
Organizers said additional race dates and classes could be announced in the future.
