The Miami Dolphins brought in several new coaches with varying levels of experience to work under new head coach Jeff Hafley this offseason, including linebackers coach Al Washington.

Washington, 42, played at Boston College from 2002-05 before starting his coaching career with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2007. He's mostly worked on the defensive side but worked on offense and special teams during a stint coaching at his alma mater from 2012-16.

Before joining the Dolphins in 2026, Washington most recently served as the defensive line coach at Notre Dame from 2022-25. He also had a one-year crossover with Hafley at Ohio State in 2019.

This is Washington's first attempt at coaching in the NFL, and it's clear that he's bringing the energy to the field, as the team released a mic'd-up video from a recent organized team activity session.

Washington will work with arguably Miami's best position group in 2026, which should help with his transition to the professional game.
