Mar. 9—GRAND FORKS — There will be a new broadcast team in the booth for UND's National Collegiate Hockey Conference semifinal game against Minnesota Duluth at 6:07 p.m. Saturday.

Jim Erickson, the longtime voice of the Minnesota state high school hockey tournament and the St. Cloud State men's hockey program, will handle play-by-play duties.

Alex Heinert, who regularly calls UND home games, is working Major League Soccer this weekend.

Erickson was recently named one of three finalists for the NCHC Media Excellence Award. Duluth News Tribune writer Matt Wellens

won it.

Erickson called Warroad and Moorhead's overtime wins in the boys state finals this weekend in St. Paul's Grand Casino Arena.

He has called NCHC games in St. Cloud for a decade. He started as the radio play-by-play man in 2016-17 and added TV duties last season.

Jake Brandt also will make his return to the booth as Erickson's analyst.

Brandt, a former UND goaltender, stepped down as Midco's regular analyst after the 2023-24 season, but has filled in occasionally.

Taylor Budge will be at the desk with former UND forward Erik Fabian. They'll host a pregame show but not a postgame.

The game will be produced by Ross Productions and picked up by Midco and NCHC TV.

In the past, CBS Sports carried the NCHC's semifinals and championship in the Twin Cities. Ross Productions handled most CBS games.

The NCHC tabbed Ross to handle both semifinals and the championship game, giving all the games a similar look and quality. Not all home NCHC broadcasts have Midco's level of production.

The entire NCHC tournament will be played at home sites for the first time this season. UND (27-8-1) is the tournament's top seed and is guaranteed to play at home throughout the NCHC playoffs.

The other semifinal is No. 3 seed Western Michigan at No. 2 seed Denver. Zach Schneider and Charlie Host will call that game.

Heinert, Brandt and Budge are scheduled to work the NCHC championship game on March 21, no matter who is playing in it.
