NEW YORK -- The Brooklyn Nets held their 2026 NBA Draft press conference at the Brooklyn Basketball Training Center on Monday where the kids in the community were able to meet the new players on their favorite team. Brooklyn added three players in the 2026 draft, headlined by guard Mikel Brown Jr., but general manager Sean Marks had some news to share about one of the second-year players.
"We've got a couple of guys who are a little banged up. Nolan just had a scope on his right knee so he will not be in summer league," Marks said during his media session on Monday. Guard Nolan Traore was the No. 19 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and the team was looking forward to seeing how he would play in both summer leagues that the franchise is participating in this year.
"But, he's expected to make a full return for training camp in early September so he won't miss much time," Marks continued in his explanation on Traore before detailing what led to the scope in the first place. "He had a little bit [of an injury] from back in the season so I think now he's just decided the best thing was to get this scoped and get it taken care of."
Traore, 20, is coming off an 2025-26 season in which he averaged 8.9 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 38.0% from the field and 31.8% from behind the three-point line. Traore did not begin the season as the starting point guard, but after spending a few stints in the G League with Long Island, he made his first start on Jan. 29 and never looked back.
With the Nets taking Brown with the No. 6 pick in the 2026 draft, it stands to reason that he and Traore will be competing for the starting point guard role given that Egor Demin has transitioned to more of an off-ball responsibility. However, Traore will have to wait until he recovers from his knee procedure to prove that he can be the starter at point guard and it seems like he'll make a full recovery, per Marks.
