Netherlands and Sweden meet at NRG Stadium in Houston on Saturday evening with both sides well aware of what is at stake in Group F.
The Oranje drew 2-2 with Japan in their opener and sit third in the standings, making this a match Ronald Koeman’s side cannot afford to drop points from. Sweden, by contrast, arrive in Houston on the back of a commanding 5-1 victory over Tunisia and lead the group. For the Netherlands, a win is effectively essential to retain control of their own qualification destiny.

Netherlands team news
Netherlands have been dealt a significant midfield blow with Quinten Timber ruled out for the match with a concussion sustained during the training. Koeman is otherwise expected to name an unchanged side. Bart Verbruggen continues in goal, though he has been listed as a doubt and will be assessed.
The back four of Denzel Dumfries, Jan Paul van Hecke, Virgil van Dijk and Micky van de Ven remains intact. Frenkie de Jong, Ryan Gravenberch and Tijjani Reijnders anchor the midfield, with Cody Gakpo, Donyell Malen and Crysencio Summerville providing the attacking threat. Summerville scored against Japan and will be eager to build on that.
Sweden team news
Graham Potter has no fresh injury concerns and is expected to name the same starting XI that dismantled Tunisia. Alexander Isak has been monitored ahead of kick-off, while Gabriel Gudmundsson also required late assessment after leaving the Tunisia match with muscle cramps. Both are expected to be available. Yasin Ayari, who scored twice against Tunisia, is set to continue in his advanced midfield role.

Netherlands were frustrated in their opener against Japan, twice taking the lead only to be pegged back on each occasion. The 2-2 draw exposed defensive vulnerabilities that Koeman will be eager to address, and the manner of the late concession will have been a particular concern. Koeman will demand greater composure and ruthlessness tonight — another draw would leave their fate in the balance heading into the final group match against Tunisia.
Sweden
Sweden were one of the standout performers of the opening round. Yasin Ayari scored twice in a dominant 5-1 victory over Tunisia, with Potter’s side rewarded for a high-energy, vertical pressing approach that overwhelmed their opponents. Sweden can afford a degree of patience tonight, sitting top of the group with a superior goal difference. Even a draw would put them on the verge of the knockout rounds.
