Neosho starts, finishes strong in win over McDonald County

Neosho used 22 points in the opening quarter Monday night to jump out to an early 8-point lead and added 19 points in the fourth frame to close out a 6-point win over McDonald County at McDonald County High School.

The Wildcats won 61-55.

The Wildcats (12-2) led by 6 at halftime, and the Mustangs (5-8) came storming back with a 19-point third quarter to cut the deficit to 1 at 42-41.

It was a spread scoring effort for the home team as Cael Carlin tallied 7 in the third stanza and Lane Harris added 6 to aid in the comeback effort.

Then Kaiden Asberry and Jaiden Fisher combined to score 15 points in the last quarter to fend off McDonald County. Asberry scored 9 and Fisher 6 in the fourth.

Asberry led Neosho with 23, while Fisher tallied 21 behind the strength of his 3-point shot. Fisher made two triples in the first quarter, three in the third and another in the fourth for a total of six 3-pointers.

Zach Forsyth chipped in 11 points for Neosho.

Carlin matched Asberry with 23 of his own while his teammate Harris added 12.

Neosho returns to the court at 7:30 p.m. Friday at East Newton (10-3). McDonald County played at Webb City on Tuesday night and will be at Carthage on Thursday.
