Jarek’s Pre-Tipoff Thoughts:
This one is pretty straightforward in my opinion, stop Nick Martinelli and you stop Northwestern. WAY EASIER SAID THAN DONE. Martinelli has been a burden on the Huskers defense in his time in Evanston, and he currently is tied for the nation’s lead with 23.8 points per game. Martinelli is a 3-point guy who can shoot from anywhere. He is a slightly better version of Pryce Sandfort.
Outside of that, Northwestern is winless in conference play. They’ve been in some close games, but other than that, there really isn’t much to write home about. The fear factor with this Wildcats team isn’t the same now that Boo Buie finally graduated. Having said that, it’s still very tough to win on the road. Nebraska does a great job of taking things one game at a time, and this one is most assuredly no different.
The Huskers game plan remains the same, move the ball, shoot a ton of 3’s, and play stifling interior defense that forces plenty of outside shots. Nebraska has proven it can be one of the best teams in the country when it does all three at the same time but is still pretty good when it does two. I think Nebraska stays undefeated. Score Prediction: Nebraska 81 Northwestern 75
