Nebraska baseball (36-14, 19-7) faced off against Iowa (29-20, 12-14) on Saturday for the second game of the series. In front of 7,773 fans, their largest home crowd since 2008, the Huskers claimed the series in spectacular fashion, knocking off the Hawkeyes 15-11.

Nebraska initially built up a firm 7-0 lead by the end of the fourth after earning seven hits in the stretch. Iowa responded in its next four turns at bat, scoring a run in the fifth and sixth before taking off in the seventh and eighth. The Hawkeyes scored nine runs in the latter two innings, going up 11-8.

But the Huskers immediately doused Iowa’s flames by sparking a massive bottom of the eighth. Nebraska scored seven runs in its final at-bat after snatching six hits, three hit by pitches, a walk and a three-run home run.

Dylan Carey delivered the home run, igniting the massive run and capping off his 3-for-5, three RBI performance at the plate. The Huskers totaled 16 hits, 14 RBIs and two home runs in their win. Iowa finished with 13 hits, 10 RBIs and three home runs.

Will Jesske accounted for the other Nebraska home run, hitting a grand slam in the third. He batted 2-for-3 for four RBIs. Trey Fikes finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Jeter Worthley, Mac Moyer and Drew Grego all concluded the night 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Colin Nowazyk (1-1) earned the win on the mound after recording the final out in the eighth. Tucker Timmerman took over in the ninth and earned one strikeout against one hit and no runs. Ty Horn started the game and threw 6.0 innings. He fired six strikeouts and allowed four hits and two runs.

Nebraska and Iowa conclude the series on Sunday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
