After the North Carolina Courage announced the signing of Evelyn Ijeh from AC Milan on Friday, the striker admitted that leaving the Italian club was "not my choice."
Ijeh has been an important player for the Rossoneri this season, scoring five goals and adding two assists.
The Courage made a reported €350,000 bid for the 24-year-old, a figure that was apparently too much for Milan to reject.
In her farewell post on Instagram, Ijeh said that her Milan departure was outside of her control.
"After two years in red and black, my time with AC Milan has come to an end," the Swedish international said. "While leaving at this time was not my choice, not everything is within our control.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have represented the club, for the lessons learned, the growth, and the people along the way. Thank you to the fans for the support throughout the journey, and I wish AC Milan continued success in the future."
Since arriving on loan from Tigres in 2024, Ijeh has been one of the most prolific scorers in Serie A Femminile. During the 2024-25 season, the forward scored 12 goals in 29 matches, finishing third in the Golden Boot race.
Despite the premature exit from Milan, Ijeh said in a Courage news release that she is excited about the future with the NWSL club.
"I’m very excited to join the North Carolina Courage and begin this new chapter of my career. The Courage is a club with a strong identity, high standards, and a history of competing at the highest level, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an ambitious environment.
"I’m looking forward to contributing both on and off the field, continuing to grow as a player, and working alongside the staff and my new teammates. I can’t wait to get started."
