As if this offseason hadn’t already been crazy enough, LeBron James going to Philadelphia shocked the NBA world even more, reminding us that in the NBA transaction market, truly, anything can happen.
As such, NBA fans enjoy going on our trade machine to put together fun theoretical deals, some based in reality, but most, not so much.

There hasn’t been any reporting on a potential Kyrie Irving trade of late, so Irving’s inclusion in the ranking this week seems to be more of fans just having fun with random trade ideas. Nine percent of proposed Irving trades put together by our readers of late saw him end up with the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Luka Doncic. And another nine percent apiece saw him end up with the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers, while eight percent saw him end up with the Orlando Magic. Some of the other players who come up in trade returns in deals put together by our readers are Tyrese Maxey, Anthony Davis and Jarrett Allen.
For now, though, in reality, it looks like Irving will be staying put in Dallas alongside Cooper Flagg.

Twenty-five percent of the Davis deals our readers built send him to the Golden State Warriors for Jimmy Butler, a swap reported as a possibility back when the Warriors were chasing LeBron James' free-agent signature. That is almost certainly off the table now that James has signed with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Speaking of Philadelphia, 13 percent of the Davis trades on our machine ship him to the Sixers for Joel Embiid. It looks like readers are trying to reunite Davis and James in Philly, and perhaps looking for a healthier option down low than Embiid.

There’s been some back and forth reporting on the possibility of a PJ Washington trade this offseason, especially with how loaded Dallas’ frontcourt is, but for right now, there doesn’t appear to be a deal on the horizon. According to Marc Steinrecently, it’s Washington’s frontcourt mate, Daniel Gafford, who is the likelier of the two to be dealt.
Even so, HoopsHype readers have been including Washington in plenty of deals of late. Ten percent send him to the Lakers (who may not be into the idea in reality due to his contract, according to a report), nine percent land him in Cleveland and another six percent have him joining the Detroit Pistons.

After adding Giannis Antetokounmpo and losing Tyler Herro this offseason, the Miami Heat undoubtedly need more shooting in their lineup. Enter Thompson, who actually has had a lot of reporting surrounding his name with regard to a potential trade or buyout this offseason, with Miami at the front of the line of teams interested in him (via ESPN):
The Thompson reporting has been reflected in our trade machine lately, with 15 percent of theoretical trades involving the historically great shooter attaching him to Miami, most commonly for Serbian swingman Nikola Jovic, whose salary matches perfectly with Thompson’s, allowing for a one-for-one swap involving the two players to be perfectly legal.
Another team Thompson could end up with eventually is Golden State, as Thompson himself told a fan recently that it would be nice to end up back with the Warriors. NBA podcaster Bill Simmons recently proposed an idea on his podcast, a purely speculative one, that had Stephen Curry getting fed up by Golden State’s inability to build a winner around him, and San Antonio jumping to the rescue to acquire him and give him another shot at championship hardware alongside Victor Wembanyama. Simmons’ idea included San Antonio offering veteran lead guard De’Aaron Fox to Golden State, along with draft capital, to land Curry.
Simmons’ idea has been reflected by action on our trade machine, with 39 percent of Fox deals recently seeing him end up in Golden State. That’s in comparison with five percent of theoretical Fox deals having him end up with the Houston Rockets, and four percent with the Utah Jazz and Boston Celtics.
The No. 1 player headed back to San Antonio for Fox, obviously, has been Curry at 35 percent, so all of the Fox action has been in response to Simmons’ podcast speculation.
Can we actually see such a deal happening? No, but it’s the NBA, and no one could have seen Doncic getting traded to Los Angeles at midnight on a Saturday either, so who knows?

Butler’s inclusion here has the most to do with Warriors fans trying to trade him using our trade machine to the Wizards in exchange for Davis, back when Golden State still had a shot at James. Now that that idea is over and done with, Butler has popped up in other trade ideas by our readers, but ones far less grounded in reality.
Twelve percent of Butler deals on our trade machine have him going to Washington, while nine percent have him going back to Miami for Giannis Antetokounmpo (never going to happen, but seven percent of Butler deals involve the Greek Freak), seven percent have him going to Philadelphia and another seven percent have him heading to Denver in deals including Nikola Jokic (six percent of Butler deals include Jokic, but also never going to hahppen).
So, clearly, this is a case of Warriors fans using our trade machine to help find Curry star-level help, considering Butler might not be back until Christmas at the earliest due to his ACL injury. In reality, Golden State will likely opt to be patient with Butler, as the Warriors had already proven to be a buzzsaw with Butler and Curry in the lineup. Golden State has gone 42-18 in games with Butler and Curry, according to StatMuse, so it would be illogical for the Warriors to trade Butler now, when his trade value is at its lowest, rather than just be patient and wait for him to return, and hope to make a run in the second half of 2026-27.

Bill Simmons lit our trade machine on fire with his speculative Curry-to-San-Antonio idea, sending fans straight to the tool to figure out how such a deal might work. Twenty-three percent of Curry deals send him to San Antonio, with 19 percent of those including Fox coming back to Golden State. Other names showing up in theoretical Curry-to-the-Spurs trades are Keldon Johnson (11 percent) and Carter Bryant (seven percent).
Curry has also landed in Boston (13 percent), Denver (12 percent) and Philadelphia (nine percent) of late, with Jayson Tatum (six percent) among the main pieces coming back.
All of this is extremely speculative. Curry seems happy in Golden State despite the team's inability to find him star help this offseason. Fans have to remember, as we discussed in the Butler section, that the Warriors already landed Curry a co-star in Butler just a season and a half ago, and things went swimmingly when the duo was healthy. The team simply had bad luck with Butler tearing his ACL.
A healthy Butler changes a lot for Golden State. The team and its fans just have to hope that at 36 (37 by next season), Butler can recapture that elite form after blowing out his knee.
