NBA Sends Message to Russell Westbrook After Game 7

After falling behind 2-1 in the first round against the Los Angeles Clippers, Russell Westbrook and the Denver Nuggets were able to secure the series win, moving on to the Western Conference Semifinals.

On Saturday night, the No. 4 seed Nuggets eliminated the No. 5 seed Clippers in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Playoffs 120-101, advancing to play the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.

Coming into the game, Westbrook had recorded 933 career playoff assists through his 16-year career, good for the 20th most in NBA history.

With 10:30 remaining in the fourth quarter, Westbrook hit center DeAndre Jordan for a dunk, marking the former UCLA star's fifth assist of the game and 938th of his playoff career.

In doing so, Westbrook has now passed Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy (937) for 19th on the NBA's all-time postseason assists list.

Westbrook now trails Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry (945) for 18th on the NBA's all-time playoffs assists leaderboards and Los Angeles Lakers legend Jerry West (970) for 17th. The record for most playoff assists belongs to Magic Johnson, who recorded 2,346 postseason assists in his five-championship career.

The NBA reacted to Westbrook's historic achievement with a message to the former NBA MVP on X.

Westbrook finished the night with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting and 2-of-4 from distance, five rebounds, five assists and five steals. Nikola Jokic added 16 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

The Nuggets now continue their playoff run against top MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder. Game 1 will be on Monday at 9:30 p.m. ET in Oklahoma City.
