The Milwaukee Bucks made their signing of Gary Trent Jr. official July 16, sending a press release at 9:31 a.m. CT. Less than two hours later, the NBA told ESPN it is looking into the four-year, fully guaranteed $64 million deal.
The league is looking into the agreement for a potential violation of the collective bargaining agreement.
Trent is coming off consecutive seasons of earning the veteran minimum of less than $4 million annually.
The 27-year-old shooting guard is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career but signed the eighth-largest free agent deal this offseason.
Trent also becomes the 23rd-highest paid shooting guard in the NBA.
The $16 million average annual value is the 10th-largest number this summer and 26th highest in the NBA.
