NBA insiders reveal possible trade package for Heat to land Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Miami Heat seem to be planning something big. The team has been mired in mediocrity for several seasons now, and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2018-19 this past year.
It's clear the team needs to make some bold moves if they plan on contending again. There are some interesting pieces on the roster, but it's hard to imagine Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro being enough to win a title.
As a result, the Heat have been heavily linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason. It really seems like Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks are headed for a divorce this offseason, and the Heat are an intriguing landing spot.
The NBA insiders at ESPN recently identified some realistic trade proposals for this summer, and of course, there's a Giannis-Heat one.
Heat give up multiple intriguing pieces for Giannis
ESPN's trade proposal looks like this:
Miami Heat receive: Giannis Antetokounmpo
Milwaukee Bucks receive: Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware, Nikola Jovic, 2029 first-round pick, 2031 first-round pick
This is an interesting package. Herro makes sense in Milwaukee, as a Wisconsin native. The Bucks would love Herro's shooting and perhaps a change of scenery could help him rejuvenate his career.
Ware is a player who has never seemed to stay in Erik Spoelstra's good graces. He's another perfect change of scenery candidate, as is Jovic. That's an interesting trio of talent to send to Milwaukee, and the two future firsts could be enough to get the deal done.
Of course, many assume the Bucks will take into account what Giannis wants. It's long been rumored that Giannis would be happy in Miami, so that also makes this deal seem reasonable.
Would Heat mortgage the future for Giannis?
The Heat and Pat Riley have notoriously been reluctant to rebuild, so we can be pretty sure they won't do that this offseason. It's also unlikely they'll just stay the course and be mediocre again, so that makes a blockbuster like this seem likely.
If Giannis wants to be in Miami, he probably will be. I think the Heat would gladly give up this package for a player of Giannis' caliber. We know the New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, and Detroit Pistons will be tough, but this move would immediately put the Heat at the top of the East.
