Warriors insider Anthony Slater revealed news earlier this week about Golden State's pursuit of Kawhi Leonard before he was ultimately moved to the Toronto Raptors. According to Slater, the Warriors were "really into" the idea of trading for Leonard at last year's deadline.

However, when the possibility to acquire him this summer came about, Golden State was much less interested due to an impending contract extension. Additionally, it appeared as though Leonard had his mind set on a move back to Toronto. Although the Warriors' front office has been wise to keep guaranteed money off the books for the future, Leonard is another player that could have helped change the narrative around this 2026-27 roster, which still has yet to include a new free agent or trade addition.

The Warriors have three roster spots remaining, two standard spots and one two-way slot.
