At the moment, the basketball world is abuzz with the potential that the Milwaukee Bucks might finally trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to another team after flirting with the possibility back at the Trade Deadline. Right now, the Miami Heat are the frontrunners to win the Giannis sweepstakes, but they might not be able to pull off the deal without involving another squad like the Detroit Pistons in a three-team trade that would send Tyler Herro to Motown as a result.

There’s potential that deal sorts itself out over the weekend, which would be good timing for the Pistons heading into the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday. Detroit would likely have to part with multiple players in that three-team arrangement, so the Pistons might have different needs come draft night. But as the team stands right now, Detroit recently hosted a high-ceiling wing from the SEC who could slot in as the team’s long-term answer at power forward with Tobias Harris entering free agency.

According to Hunter Patterson of The Athletic, the Pistons recently brought in Texas wing Dailyn Swain for a pre-draft workout, and the 6-8, 220 pound forward is a player who could grow into a similar role to the one Harris has occupied over the last two seasons. Detroit has the 21st overall pick in the draft, and Swain has consistently been mock drafted in the mid-to-late first round range.

After spending two years at Xavier, Swain transferred to Texas for his junior campaign and walked into a situation that was much more conducive to showing off his dynamic skill set. As a season-long starter, Swain averaged 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game for the Longhorns en route to an All-SEC selection while continuing to shoot well over 50% from the field for the second consecutive season.

Given Swain’s size, the Texas junior has the ability to guard multiple positions with the defensive instincts to turn those matchups into steals and fastbreak-sparking turnovers, all of which are important on a Pistons defense that switches with regularity. Swain is an attentive rebounder who chips in on the offensive glass as well, and his leaping ability makes him a put-back threat whenever there’s loose change around the rim.

NBA Draft: Detroit Pistons Continue To Evaluate Stanford’s Ebuka OkorieThe Detroit Pistons have the 21st pick in the first round of the 2026 NBA Draft, which is less than a week away, and Stanford guard Ebuka Okorie is a dangerous scorer who already worked out for the Motown squad
As a shooter, Swain increased his three-point conversion rate to 34.4% last season while keeping his mark above 80% from the charity stripe. Although Swain has not developed into an elite perimeter threat just yet, he has improved vastly from beyond the arc between his freshman season and now. Since Swain is comfortable handling the ball and can self-create, the Pistons could reasonably use the Texas junior as a stretch four in the pros based on how frequently he operated from the perimeter in college.

If the Pistons do agree to a three-team trade for Herro ahead of the draft, then Detroit might have to part ways with Isaiah Stewart and / or Ron Holland to get the deal done. In that case, Swain’s value to Detroit would likely increase given the team’s depth chart after unloading a pair of high-level defenders, but it remains to be seen if the Pistons will execute such a deal.
