The NBA will hold the championship game of the Emirates NBA Cup at Butler's Hinkle Fieldhouse on Dec. 11, according to a league press release. The game will be televised exclusively on Prime.
The NBA Cup Final has been held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas since its inception in 2023 when it was first known as the NBA In-Season Tournament. However, commissioner Adam Silver expressed an interest in playing the game at more historic basketball venues and mentioned college arenas as a potential option. Hinkle gets the first opportunity."
The semifinals will not be held at Hinkle as they had been in Las Vegas. However according to the release there will be "expanded basketball programming across the Butler campus, creating a dynamic atmosphere in the lead-up to tip-off."
According to the release, "the selection of Hinkle Fieldhouse reflects the NBA’s multiyear vision to bring the Championship to distinctive stages that honor the sport’s history while connecting with audiences around the world."
“Hinkle Fieldhouse offers a special setting to capture the excitement and drama of the Emirates NBA Cup Championship,” NBA Head of Global Events, Kelly Flatow said in the release. “Playing the Championship in an iconic basketball environment like this will further establish it as a signature moment on the NBA calendar.”
The release noted Hinkle's historic significance as the former host of Indiana high school state championship games, including the 1954 championship game won by Milan that inspired the movie "Hoosiers" and the 1955 title game in which Oscar Robertson's Crispus Attucks team became the first all-Black state basketball championship team.
