Of the controversial officiating decisions that Los Angeles Lakers fans were complaining about after their team lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 4 on Sunday, the most egregious took place with just over 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter.
Luka Doncic was bringing the ball upcourt against Jaden McDaniels, who appeared to trip him, causing him to lose his balance. No foul was called, and the Lakers had to use their last timeout to prevent a turnover or an eight-second backcourt violation.
Head coach JJ Redick made it clear after the game that a foul should've been called. Although it was too little, too late, the NBA acknowledged in its "last two minutes" report on Monday that a foul indeed should've been called on McDaniels for tripping Doncic.
The Lakers were down 114-113 when McDaniels tripped Doncic. Had a foul been called on McDaniels, Doncic would've had a chance to give them the lead with two free throws.
Instead, Los Angeles lost and now trails the series three games to one. It will be playing for its playoff life on Wednesday when Game 5 takes place at Crypto.com Arena.
