Is Nash going to be a better PG for this team than Marbury would have been? No.
Is Nash going to be significantly less expensive to this team over the long haul than Marbury would have been? No. The difference is about $4 million for each of the next five seasons -- less than the MLE (which, incidentally, the Suns can't even use now).
The Suns are spinning their wheels. Yes, they plugged a major hole, but the only reason it was a major hole was because they dumped Marbury in order to get out of Hardaway's contract.
So now, in exchange for not having to pay Hardaway $30 million over the next two seasons, the Suns...
have downgraded from Marbury to Nash,
have gone from a core of players who were all approximately the same age to a group that are all in different stages of their careers,
still have to pay Eisley $13 million over the same next two seasons, and
have acquired Lampe and the infamous "rights to Vujanic."
This is a terrible deal. The only reason it looks at all reasonable is because it partly makes up for the earlier mistake of dumping Marbury for financial reasons, rather than basketball ones.
ASUCHRIS said:EXACTLY, I cannot believe how many people are praising this deal. If you asked me last year if I would have traded Nash for Marbury, I would say no way. This move is just extremely frustrating. It seems incredibly knee-jerk, and the fact that it hamstrings this franchise for another 5 years makes me sick. Unless Amare turns into a superstar, this team will remain good, but never contend for a championship. The only legitimate chance they had at that was to add Kobe this offseason; clearly that isn't going to happen. We'll sign a big man, have a good regular season, then lose in the first round. Whoopie!!![]()

I wouldn't have minded Nash so much if we had another dynamic player besides Amare - like say McGrady - this team blew it by not ponnying up JJ and Shawn - a core of Amare, Tracy and Nash would have been nails and we still would have had six million dollars in cap room and the MLE.
I just don't believe in JJ and I dfefinetly don't believe in Shawn - the guy has never been the same since Starks undercut his ass - and I know maybe that it's not totally his fault - but come on get over it man - Shawn looked like he coul be a real stud - now he's just another good player with a max contract.
And Sly - before you get to happy bashing the crybabies - maybe you should look at how Ouchie and I have been able to call sports ever since we've been on this baord - we're usually pretty dead on.
It's great to see such an unlikely guy win. His stats are underwhelming for an MVP, but his effect on this team can't be understated and definitely makes him a deserving recipient.
