Considering how many Suns fans were against the Nash signing I would like to hear if they still want Derrick Fisher...eh Bob Kemp?

Since we had fun looking at some reporter's take on the Marbury trade, I thought it would be fun to go back and look at some of our own poster's takes on the Nash signing...

Is Nash better than Marbury? No.

Is Nash going to be a better PG for this team than Marbury would have been? No.

Is Nash going to be significantly less expensive to this team over the long haul than Marbury would have been? No. The difference is about $4 million for each of the next five seasons -- less than the MLE (which, incidentally, the Suns can't even use now).

The Suns are spinning their wheels. Yes, they plugged a major hole, but the only reason it was a major hole was because they dumped Marbury in order to get out of Hardaway's contract.

So now, in exchange for not having to pay Hardaway $30 million over the next two seasons, the Suns...

have downgraded from Marbury to Nash,

have gone from a core of players who were all approximately the same age to a group that are all in different stages of their careers,

still have to pay Eisley $13 million over the same next two seasons, and

have acquired Lampe and the infamous "rights to Vujanic."

This is a terrible deal. The only reason it looks at all reasonable is because it partly makes up for the earlier mistake of dumping Marbury for financial reasons, rather than basketball ones.

ASUCHRIS said:
EXACTLY, I cannot believe how many people are praising this deal. If you asked me last year if I would have traded Nash for Marbury, I would say no way. This move is just extremely frustrating. It seems incredibly knee-jerk, and the fact that it hamstrings this franchise for another 5 years makes me sick. Unless Amare turns into a superstar, this team will remain good, but never contend for a championship. The only legitimate chance they had at that was to add Kobe this offseason; clearly that isn't going to happen. We'll sign a big man, have a good regular season, then lose in the first round. Whoopie!!

believe me if the next transaction is Okur - you'll see a river of tears.

I wouldn't have minded Nash so much if we had another dynamic player besides Amare - like say McGrady - this team blew it by not ponnying up JJ and Shawn - a core of Amare, Tracy and Nash would have been nails and we still would have had six million dollars in cap room and the MLE.

I just don't believe in JJ and I dfefinetly don't believe in Shawn - the guy has never been the same since Starks undercut his ass - and I know maybe that it's not totally his fault - but come on get over it man - Shawn looked like he coul be a real stud - now he's just another good player with a max contract.

And Sly - before you get to happy bashing the crybabies - maybe you should look at how Ouchie and I have been able to call sports ever since we've been on this baord - we're usually pretty dead on.

Those were from a thread that was TTT in March, so many may have already seen them... But I still enjoy reading them :)

Not a Suns fan, I'm a Lakers fan. I am happy for Nash, however...I really like the way he plays and the way he commands a team. I'm also happy that that fat loudmouth Snaq didn't win MVP for having one of the statistically worst years of his career while playing in the East where 6'9" makes one starting center material.

Congrats Nash....you beat Shaq once, if you get the chance you better beat him again in the Finals!

 It's great to see such an unlikely guy win. His stats are underwhelming for an MVP, but his effect on this team can't be understated and definitely makes him a deserving recipient.

I think so. If I remember correctly he was traded here before the 1992-93 season and won the award after that season.

Well, Suns made a gamble on Nash and we all knew it.

Suns has done all the "proper" way to get a future Hall of Fame (Kidd) to lead this team and a great all-star guard like Marbury to lead this team but nothing has worked right. Hell, Suns even had Barkley to battle with MJ and still lost several times.

To some degree, Suns didn't want the conventional way to deal things. Playing too safe won't get you at the Top. All the most successful people in the world will tell you that LUCK has a lot do with it. You can be the smartest and most hard working person in the world but without LUCK, you won't go too far.

In Chinese, we have this famous saying "70% depends on your efforts and 30% depends on fate/luck". We truly believe in it. And Suns gambled the right thing this year by bringing Nash who nobody thought could bring such huge impact to a team.

This is another successful story that will be remembered after several years...

This is fantastic! I am really happy for Nash I hope he is not too embarrassed about it and let his shy personality effect his game. Congrats

I confess I hate this award. This is a team game. I wish they would do away with the mvp award entirely.

I bet Amare Stoudemire wins it next year, hmmmm or Shawn Marion, perhaps Joe Johnson steps up game... 6th man goes to Suns Draft Pick ____ who also wins the ROY. It could happen...

Golly, how could I - I knew I forgot something. I wanted to say, Marion would win DPOY as well but I figured everybody would call me a homer... :)
