With Monday's blockbuster deal sending Myles Garrett to the Rams, the Cowboys will keep alive a rather unfortunate streak.
The trade means that Dallas will now see Garrett on their regular-season schedule, late in December. And when they do, it will mark the fourth season in a row in which the Cowboys have hit the road to square off against the reigning Defensive Player of the Year in his home stadium.
Talk about unlucky.
Last year, the Cowboys traveled to Denver, where cornerback Patrick Surtain II was defending his 2024 trophy. Surtain had five tackles and a defended pass early, but he strained a pectoral muscle just before halftime and sat out the rest of the game. The damage had been done, though, and Dallas went on to lose by a 44-24 score.
In 2024, it was the Cowboys versus Garrett, only this time in Cleveland for the season opener. Coming off his first DPOY award, Garrett was his usual game-wrecking self, logging a sack, a tackle for loss, a QB hit, and a forced fumble. The Cowboys, however, overpowered the otherwise mismatched Browns in a 33-17 win.
Week 5 of the 2023 season saw the Cowboys visit San Francisco to play Nick Bosa while he was defending his DPOY win. Bosa was an absolute menace that Sunday night at Levi's Stadium, registering four hits on Dak Prescott and getting credit for half a sack in a 42-10 49ers rout.
And now it will be a late-season trip to SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles to line up against Garrett once again. This time, he'll be the defensive centerpiece for a Rams team that clearly has designs on a deep playoff run. The Week 15 game, set for Dec. 20, has the potential to be a huge matchup for both teams.
Garrett is 1-1 in his career versus the Cowboys. Dallas, meanwhile, will look to make it two in a row over Garrett and even up their recent record against reigning Defensive Player of the Year winners.
The Cowboys will also face 2025's Offensive Player of the Year, Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, in a Week 13 away game, with a critically important bye week in between.
