We were playing the ESPN Sunday Night game against the Bills. I think it was December of '99 or '00. This was before I became radio producer. My duty at the time (On-Field Media Coordinator) required me to be on the field in the bench area.
We had just scored and were setting up to kickoff. Some drunken fool ran onto the field and nobody was doing anything about it. I have always wanted to deck some idiot on the field, so I started to go out. Still, nobody was doing anything so I started running after him. I caught up to him and he cut at the last minute. There was dew on the field and I started to slip. On my way down to the turf, I thought that it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of my life if I didn't grab him by the shirt on the way down. I made a grab for the shirt and I ended up getting a hold of it around his neck. I went down, but he went down by the neck. I then jumped on top of him until the "real" security could hog tie his ass and take him away.
One of the things I will always remember was the reaction of the players. I was jogging past the the huddle for the kickoff team. While most of them were laughing, Pat Tillman got right in my grill and yelled "NICE ****ING HIT, OMO!" He screamed it! It was awesome. It got me so pumped up.
I then returned to the sideline and everyone was making fun of me because I fell. I simply said..."Did I make the tackle though? Thank you!"
I wish that it was on tape, but they were in commercial following our touchdown.
