Track season is around halfway complete in the Lone Star State, but there's still a few more meets to run before the start of district championships.

One of those meets will take this week when the 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays kick off in Austin on Wednesday. The Texas Relays brings the nation's top track athletes from around the country to the state's capital city for what has become one of the most competitive high school track and field events in the nation.

In addition to boys and girls high school athletes from Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, California and more, the Texas Relays also features collegiate and professional divisions. This year, multiple athletes from the Texas Panhandle were selected to compete in the event's 97th edition.

To be selected to participate in the Texas Relays, athletes have to be nominated and hit a qualifying mark specific to their event. Accord to the rules outlined by the event's web page, coaches "may only enter 2 athletes in individual events and 1 relay team for consideration of acceptance."

The event's rigid selection process makes the Texas Relays one of the most impressive high school track and field events in the United State each year.
